Youth Alpha Residential Weekend at Corrymeela
Up to 70 people took part in the recent Youth Alpha residential in Corrymeela, Ballycastle. Four Youth Alpha groups, from throughout the diocese, took part in the weekend events: St. Louis Grammar, Ballymena, Maghera Parish group, Ballyhackamore Parish group & the Living Youth Alpha group. It was without a doubt a powerful & unforgettable weekend for all the young people and leaders involved. The Friday night started with food & fun and a Youth Alpha episode that discussed the different types of healing. The evening came to a close with night prayer, music, fun, snacks and games. Saturday morning started with breakfast and this then led into our ‘How to read the Bible workshop’. All groups had to act out various parables from the Bible and they were then presented with their brand new Bibles. The young people then got to play games and icebreakers with the amazing volunteers at Corrymeela. Following this, we watched another episode of Youth Alpha and this episode focused on the Holy Spirit. The young people had social time, following this episode, to get to know each other better by playing games/sports and singing/chatting. After a lovely dinner, we watched another episode of Youth Alpha. This episode focused on the power of the Holy Spirit and various priests, from throughout the diocese, attended this session so they could deliver the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Thanks to Fr Colin Crossey, Fr Raymond McCullagh, Fr Brian Daley and Fr Eddie Magee for all their help & inspirational words – it was a beautiful, powerful and moving evening! The night came to a close with fun, games, singing & more socialising. Some young people even got the chance to make St. Brigid’s day crosses with Ms. Pickering from St. Louis Grammar. Sunday finished up with our final episode of Youth Alpha & a beautiful Mass was led by Fr. Colin Crossey. Youth Alpha 2015 – What an amazing journey for all involved. New friendships were formed and faith was instilled.
A big thanks to everyone who took part in our first running of Youth Alpha, including all those people who volunteered or contributed to the weekly sessions/residential.
