Young Adult Gathering
On Thurs 2nd May it was our pleasure to welcome our young adults to Living Youth to their first planned evening together. The event had been organized by Declan McLaughlin, Denise McKeegan, Laura Whinnery and their organising committee and was the product of the desire expressed by more than 30 young adults back in November to begin to explore the possibilities around faith formation and development for young adults in Down and Connor.
Hosted by Declan, the evening was a blend of witness, teaching, reflection and prayer on the theme of the Mass. Two young adults spoke movingly about their own devotion to the Mass and Fr Damien McCaughan spoke with conviction and challenge about the beauty of the Mass and he introduced many to the writings and reflections on the Mass by the American Catholic, Dorothy Day. Five diocesan priests, Fr Joe Gunn, Fr. Raymond McCullough, Fr. Martin Graham, Fr Conor McGrath and Fr Damien McCaughan participated in the evening and formed the Q&A Panel with Bishop Donal, answering a variety of challenging questions that gave us all food for thought. Adoration and prayer was prepared and led by Chris in the oratory.
The evening ended with some social time, the obligatory pizza and juice and the hope that this really was the beginning of something of value. I would encourage any young adult who is interested in their faith to keep watching the Living Youth website for upcoming events.
