Pope John Paul II Award Ceremony

A group of 183 young people from parishes, youth centres and schools across the Diocese received the John Paul II Award at a ceremony held in St Peter’s Cathedral on Wednesday 2nd April.

Over an eighteen month period, the young people earnestly committed themselves to voluntary work in their local Parish and community. The young people undertook a wide range of ministries and service projects, generously giving of their gifts, talents and time. Their inspirational contribution brought enthusiasm and energy into their local area, bringing to life the Gospel values of love, service and community.

Bishop Farquhar, who presented the awards, commended the young people on their achievement and encouraged them to keep their dreams alive and to have hope as they move forward.

This was a record year for young people completing the Award. Lagan College was also the first integrated school to participate in the Award Scheme.
