Living Youth Summer Pilgrimage

Summer Pilgrimage Circle

Every summer, Living Youth takes a group of young people and young adults away on pilgrimage so that they have an opportunity to explore and deepen their personal faith and experience a new culture.

In the Summer of 2013 a group of 27 went to Scotland to celebrate Celtic World Youth Day.  We had a great experience hosted by our friends at Sterling University.  We enjoyed great faith formation and lots of new music and a candle-lit procession on the last evening in torrential rain, all part of the fun!

In 2014 we took a group of 44 young adults and volunteers to Rome for 5 days. We stayed at the beautiful Irish College and the itinerary included visits to Santa Croce, the Trevi Fountain, the Vatican, St. Peter’s Basilica, St. John Lateran’s Basilica, the Piazza Navona, the Colosseum, the Spanish Steps, the Holy Steps, St. Paul’s outside the Walls and the Catacombs. Each day began with prayer, each afternoon included exploring, time by the pool and Mass and each evening finished with dinner and prayer organised and led by the young adults.

This pilgrimage was a fabulous and unforgettable experience for all involved as friendships were formed, faith was shared, developed and celebrated and the feedback from pilgrims and parents was brilliant. Many of the young people who went on the Rome pilgrimage are still involved with Living Youth today.

In August 2015 a group of 34 young people and leaders went on pilgrimage from Living Youth to Bobbio to trace the footsteps of St Columbanus. We  enjoyed a six day, non-stop journey, which took us to Milan where we visited the San Siro, the Church of the Redeemer, the Basilica di Sant Ambrogio and the Milan Cathedral before a visit to San Colombano al Lambro. After an amazing few days in the beautiful city we made the journey to Piacenza where we met the Bishop and he celebrated Mass with us. We then made our way to Bobbio where we visited the tomb and cave of St. Columbanus and the Bobbio Cathedral.

We all returned from the Bobbio pilgrimage ready to sign up for World Youth Day.  This pilgrimage will start in Prague before we make our way to the main event at Krakow in Poland.  54 of us will take part in the pilgrimage and we are currently involved in our fundraising activities.

All our places for the pilgrimage are full but if you would like to be placed on our waiting list or to help with our fundraising please contact us, by phone, email or Facebook.
