Habitat for Humanity Project
Living Youth is pleased to announce details of an exciting project enabling young people from the Diocese of Down and Connor to travel to Ethiopia this summer. It is in partnership with Habitat for Humanity N.I. and is part of their highly successful Global Village Programme. The context for this work is that half the world’s population, nearly three billion people, live on less than one pound a day. Moreover, a third of the entire population live in poverty housing.

What is Habitat for Humanity?
Habitat for Humanity is a global non-profit Christian housing organisation that seeks to put God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope. Habitat has become a global leader in addressing poverty housing by helping more than 2.5 million people of all races, faiths and backgrounds to have a safe and healthy place to live. Habitat for Humanity Northern Ireland is a key partner in the global mission, raising funds and sending volunteers to work alongside families in need in some of the world’s most vulnerable communities.
Global Village is the name given to Habitat for Humanity’s international volunteering programme. Its aims are to raise homes, funds and awareness about the need for decent housing. The programme is a unique short-term opportunity where you will join a team which has the privilege of working alongside the families who will live in the houses you build. Equally important is the personal development aspect of these trips with perspectives broadened, skills enhanced and lives changed.
