A former student of St Rose’s High School Belfast, Pauline Dowd worked in Belfast Metropolitan College for 25 years before taking on the role of Director of Youth Ministry in the Diocese, in September 2012. Pauline’s primary degree is Youth and Community Work and for 8 years she worked in the Department of Community Education as a tutor on both the Routeways and Youthways social education programmes. Pauline then lectured in Computing for 7 years. In her most recent position, Pauline was the Research Manager of the College, responsible for managing a range of internal and external research projects and the collection of the ‘Student Voice’. She was a member of the Change Management Team in the recent college restructure on both the ‘Curriculum’ and the ‘Processes and Infrastructure’ workstreams.
Pauline is a member of Holy Family Parish in North Belfast. Having previously served on the former Executive of the Youth Commission she was, since October 2011, the Chair of the new Youth Commission. She has experience in the organisation of faith development programmes and pilgrimages such as New Day and World Youth Day. She has also worked in a part-time capacity in various youth centres including ‘The Saints’ and Poleglass Youth Centre as well as doing detatched work in Taughmonagh. Pauline has a great love of music and has been involved in a variety of parish folk groups for more than thirty years as well as being a member of the Solas religious music group. Pauline wants to bring a new dynamic to youth ministry in Down and Connor, where all young people can feel valued, safe and encouraged in their faith. “I want all our Catholic young people to know and experience the love of God through friendship, service and faith and to have the confidence to celebrate and share their faith with others .”
